With Knowledge, Comes Safety. Is your child prepared for a Bully or Predator?

The new school year brings new challenges for your child. New teachers, new ways to learn, tougher subjects, new friends, and bigger expectations. All of these situations cause your child to adapt, and if handled properly, can also lead to personal growth.

There is one situation, however, that can only lead to much pain and suffering.

That situation is your child having to deal with the physical and mental stress of bullying.

It’s something that many kids deal with on a daily basis and many times parents are unaware.

Bullying is an issue in all schools. Teachers and parents can’t be there every minute of the school day to prevent it and many times young people just don’t know how to deal with it.

Just how dangerous can the effects of bullying be? Bullying can cause physical pains but the effects of bullying can be far more disruptive and unsettling. At times children can become afraid to go to school, suffer from depression and lack of self- esteem, and there have even been reported cases of children taking their own lives because of bullying and the pain it causes.

I believe that no child should ever be the victim of a bully.

I also know that there are things that kids can learn to protect themselves against a bully.

On Saturday October 4th at 2:15 pm at Nicklaus’ Martial Arts America in La Crosse, WI I will help our kids learn how to safeguard themselves against bullying.

Some of the topics that I will be covering can be found on our Anti-Bullying & Child Safety Seminar Registration page

In addition to giving your child the confidence and knowledge to deal with a bullying situation I will also cover the topic of dealing with an adult predator. This is information that all children should know.

Even though my topic will be very serious we will also include some games, prizes, and refreshments to lighten this very important information.

Many people that I’ve spoken to about personal safety or bullying issues have chosen to do nothing. Instead they’ve chosen to believe that this could not happen to their child.

It’s the wrong way to think. It can and does happen to many children every day. It can happen to your child.

As a parent you can do something to make sure that your child is not a victim of bullying or the victim of an adult predator.

This information is easy to understand and it makes an important impression on young people. It’s information that they should all know.

Be sure to register your child in the office for this seminar and remember to give this gift to one or more of your son/daughter’s friends too.

I hope to see you on the 4th.

Moms and Dads,

If there was a magic formula to guarantee your child’s success in school would you make sure that your child could get it?

Success in school and in life requires a combination of many things but 3 things are of the utmost importance.

The 3 things that all children can and should continually work on are Focus, Self-Confidence, and Self-Image.

The thing is, no child really knows how to work on these things on their own. Moms and dads certainly play a huge role in helping their children grow in these all important areas. Even though parents

The Power of Focus

The Power of Focus

are those primarily responsible for helping their children on the path to success, they also play an essential role in connecting their children with other people who can help them with these life changing skills.

Why is this so important? Quite simply, it’s because parents can’t know or do everything.

As a kids martial arts instructor in La Crosse I’ve had the good fortune to work with kids for the past 17 years and discover some proven truths and strategies that help them to do their best.

Kids need mentors to help them become the best that they can be.

The best mentors in any field realize the value of teaching children a skill that they can own and use for a lifetime.

Let’s cover the first skill to school success.

Focus– An ability to center one’s attention on the task at hand without being distracted by outside people, places, and things.

Focus helps youngsters learn and study more effectively. Focused practice of any skill rewards children with small successes that eventually lead to bigger successes. The practice of focus helps children train their minds to think of only one thing at a time which allows them to lock in to the task that they are presently working on.

Learning the skill of focus takes time and practice and is not something that comes naturally as a child ages and matures.

Like most things of value effective practice is important. Regular, focused practice of any skill develops discipline along with a sense of pride and accomplishment.

As children develop focus they also start to notice that they are doing things in a more efficient manner. As parents and mentors praise their children for their more effective efforts in school and other areas of their lives, children start to believe in their ability to do well.

When kids work on and grow the skill of focus they also develop their self-confidence.

Focus and Self-Confidence work hand in hand.

Self-confidence grows when children feel themselves learning and improving. Self-confidence grows in leaps and bounds when children learn to accept challenge as well as learn how to deal with struggle and failure.

Everything doesn’t always come easy. Learning how to be committed and persistent when it comes to reaching goals helps young people drive on even when things become difficult.

A child who has “I Can” confidence is willing and able to work hard for what he/she wants as a goal.

Burning desire is a trait that many winners have.

So what’s the end result of a young person who has learned to develop Focus and Self-Confidence?

Kids martial arts instructor in La Crosse believes in the power of Self-Image

"I Can" Confidence

“I Can” Confidence

Young people who have taken the time to practice these aforementioned skills in time will also develop an unstoppable Self-Image.

Self-Image is how a person sees him/herself. It is this picture of oneself that governs how and why people behave in certain ways. A young person who has experienced success because of focused consistency and practice believes in his/her ability to have successful outcomes.

This person expects success, it’s “how they roll.” This person sees him/herself as powerful and capable. These are the things all children should believe.

It’s hard to believe but the new school year is fast approaching. As a parent do you believe that your child is ready for success this coming school year? Are there things that you can do to help your son/daughter improve focus, self-confidence, and self-image?

I would encourage you to give this serious thought as it’s important for parents and mentors to remember that children are much like sponges. They will soak in the things that they see, hear, and experience.

Let’s make it a point to give them a treasure chest of great examples and exciting challenges that they can choose from to help them become the best that they can possibly be.

La Crosse Karate Teacher

La Crosse Karate Teacher shares simple ideas on how to keep your child Productive This Summer

Moms and Dads,

Have you ever heard your child say that he/she was “bored” after only a few weeks of summer vacation?

Martial Arts Classes La Crosse, WI

Movement creates energy & excitement

As parents I believe that we have all heard the dreaded B word before very soon after summer has begun.

We might ask, how can one possibly be bored with so much free time? There in lies the rub. It’s the free time. So what can we do to help our children stay productive during the summer months and assure that they are sharp when they return to school in the fall?

Make no mistake, I’m a firm believer in kids being kids during the summer. It’s a great time to relax, play, be with friends, and just be a kid. At the same time it’s also important to have rules, standards, and expectations.

With all of this free time it’s easy for kids to sit too much and have their minds become stale.

Video games, t.v. and other activities that let kids simply zone out and turn off their creative possibilities are easily accessed and can be abused.

As a La Crosse Karate Teacher I’ve worked with kids for 35 years and have found some simple secrets that have helped me keep kids productive (I have a free offer for you on the bottom of the page).

I’d like to share with you some ideas of things that I’ve learned that have helped my own kids and kids in my Karate program have fun and prosper during the summer.

Let’s talk about Routine

Every child needs routine and structure.

They prosper under these conditions. Just because it’s summer doesn’t mean that routine goes out the window. Think about it for a minute. During the school year your kids get up, get ready for school, go to school, come home and do their homework, relax and unwind, and get ready for bed. They have a routine.

Should the routine during the summer be all that much different? Can it be a little more relaxed? Sure it can for both parents and children, but still there is value in routine.

Let’s cover some summer routine ideas.

Getting up in the morning can be a bit later then during the school year but sleeping the day away everyday can lead to a child being tired and unmotivated.

Movement creates energy and movement can be in overdrive during the summer.

Beautiful weather, long days, and lots to choose from.

  • Bike riding
  • Walking
  • Running
  • Baseball
  • Fishing

…and lots of other activities can create movement and keep your kids sharp mentally and physically. Some of these activities can be planned by you and your child while others can be planned by the summer programs that your children can take part in.

La Crosse Karate Teacher Shares More Ideas About Keeping Kids Engaged and Motivated During The Summer

How about chores?

Oh sure, your kids may gripe a bit about doing their chores but it’s important that they understand that chores are how they contribute to the family. It’s not a free ride and when we help our kids realize that they too have responsibility it gives them a direction and a pride in ownership and contribution.

Wouldn’t it be exciting if your child would end the summer and say that he/she developed a skill or sharpened a skill over the summer months.

Learning direction is important. Kids learn how to direct their energy in karate class.

Learning promotes “I Can” confidence

Working on accomplishing a skill develops confidence and an understanding that commitment and persistence are desirable traits to develop. Encourage your child to find a person or a program that can help them feel that sense of accomplishment.

It’s a good idea for kids to continue reading during the summer months. Reading expands vocabulary and well as developing imagination and creativity. A child who likes to read finds it easy to entertain themselves.

How important is quiet time and reflection?

We all know how easy it is to be too busy and have life racing us by. Kids as well as adults need time to unwind and not do anything. Night time is a great time to sit down and go over what happened during the day and let our bodies and minds relax and recharge.

Giving your kids movement, achievement, structure and consistency gives them direction during those long, hot days of summer. Being consistently consistent during the summer helps kids recharge, not be bored, and ready for a great school year next fall.

There might be times when your kids struggle with some of this structure but stick to your guns. They might not fully understand it now but very soon they will thank you for being committed to what’s best for them.

A small struggle now is worth a large victory for kids as they become responsible, contributing adults.

It would be great to hear about your success stories. It would be great if you would leave them in the comment section. If you thought this post was helpful remember to share it on Facebook
