Even we’re having a blast at our second Karate Camp of the Summer, we still have to make sure we have great life lessons with our karate classes. One of the biggest themes we talk about in our Summer Karate Camp classes is Teamwork.

One of the biggest challenges kids (let alone adults) have is working well with others. In our Summer Karate Camp classes, we have the kids make up group performance skits. Part of the fun is letting the kids be creative on their own, making up their own karate skits or combinations. The other part, we as Martial Arts Instructors like is the teamwork aspect.

Each kid has to work on compromising with the ideas of their teammates and do it in a respectful way. No parent likes to have their kid whine and complain, so in the karate classes, we make sure we talk about the idea of teamwork. Some of the Great concepts for kids to remember even outside of karate class are:

  • You’ll get more results and be happier in the process if you don’t whine and complain when you don’t get your way.
  • You don’t always have to be first.

A lot times kids shut down when they don’t get their way in and outside of karate class. That’s why it’s important that the kids understand that great teamwork requires a good attitude & compromising as well as getting their way sometimes.

Enjoy the pictures we took at our Summer Karate Camp classes.

Here are the martial arts performance videos from Karate Summer Boot Camp I. These are karate skits or combinations that the kids created in karate class at Boot Camp. The main goal of the martial arts skits and combos was to have them work as team developing better respect and teamwork. There were some disagreements but compromising was the resulting lesson for the kids which is an important Martial Arts lesson to learn. Check them out.

Pictures from the last day of Martial Arts Summer Boot Camp. The kids had a blast taking a different kind of karate class where we still worked on martial arts technique, but also, focused on having fun in Martial Arts class. Some of the main life skill lessons we focused on were:

  • Working as a Team
  • Compromising
  • Persistence – Not shutting down or giving up when things get hard or uncomfortable
  • Respect and Listening (even if we’re having fun)

Great concepts for kids and teens to hear and also a constant message that shows up in every Martial Arts event we do whether it’s bowling, summer karate camp, canoeing, etc.

Look at some of the videos of the karate performances that karate kids came up with by themselves. One is a more structured martial arts performance, and the other is a fun karate skit.
